Privacy Policy

Short version

WordRank is a free word-guessing game. We don't require accounts and we don't sell your personal information. The site is paid for by advertising, so this page explains plainly what the game itself stores, what our advertising partners store, and how you can turn personalised ads off.

What we store on your device

Your current game state (game ID, guesses, session token) is saved in your browser's localStorage so you can refresh without losing progress. This stays on your device and is never sent anywhere as a profile of you. Clearing your browser data removes it.

What the server receives

When you start a game or submit a guess, our backend receives the word you typed and a temporary session token. We do not log IP addresses or personally identifiable information for analytics. Standard infrastructure logs (Vercel, Cloudflare) may briefly retain request metadata for security and debugging.

Advertising

WordRank shows ads through Google AdSense. This is how the game stays free and unlimited, and it means advertising cookies are used on this site. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar identifiers to serve and measure ads on WordRank, and Google's advertising partners may do the same. Those cookies can be used to show ads based on your previous visits to this or other websites.

You are not stuck with personalised ads. You can turn them off, and you do not need an account with us to do it:

• Turn off ad personalisation for your Google account or browser at Google Ads Settings.
• Opt out of personalised advertising from many other vendors at once at aboutads.info/choices.
• Block or delete cookies for this site in your browser's own cookie settings. Ads may still appear, but they will not be personalised.

To be straightforward about it: WordRank does not run a consent banner or a cookie preference centre, so we do not ask you to choose settings on this site. The opt-out links above are the real controls, and they apply across every site you browse, not just this one.

Cookies and analytics

Beyond the advertising cookies described above, WordRank uses aggregate analytics to see which pages and languages people actually use (Vercel Analytics, Google Analytics, Ahrefs Web Analytics). These report totals and trends, not profiles of individual players, and we never use them to identify you by name. We do not sell or share your personal information with data brokers.

Third-party services

The game runs on Vercel (hosting) and Cloudflare Workers + R2 (word-vector service), and serves ads through Google AdSense. Each of these providers handles the data it receives under its own privacy policy, which you can read on their sites.

Children

WordRank is safe for general audiences and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. We do not knowingly serve personalised advertising to children.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or which advertising partners we work with, we will update this page and change the date at the top. The date above is the last time the substance of this policy actually changed.
