WordRank is a free, unlimited word game where you find a secret word by meaningrather than spelling. You type a word, you get a rank showing how close it is, and you keep going — warmer and warmer — until you land on rank 1. There’s no daily limit, no account, and no paywall.
Where it came from
If you’ve played Contexto or Semantle, the idea will feel familiar — guessing a word by how close it is in meaning is one of the most satisfying twists on the word-game genre in years. The one thing that always frustrated players was the 24-hour wait: you finish today’s puzzle, you’re in the zone, and then you have to stop. WordRank started from a simple wish — the same kind of game, but as many rounds as you want, whenever you want.
WordRank is an independent project, not affiliated with Contexto or Semantle. It’s an original game inspired by them, built with its own word lists and its own data.
How “closeness” actually works
Most word games ask you to match letters. WordRank is about meaning. The simplest way to picture it: every word keeps a circle of friends — the other words it usually shows up alongside in ordinary writing. “Coffee” hangs out with “tea”, “mug”, and “morning”; “river” hangs out with “bank”, “water”, and “bridge”. Two words feel close when their circles of friends overlap a lot. Your rank is just where your guess lands in the lineup, from the secret word’s closest friend down to its most distant stranger.
Each language gets its own circles, learned from a large amount of real text written in that language — not an English game with the labels swapped out. That’s why neighbors feel natural in each language instead of like translations.
What we care about
- No friction.Open the page and play. No sign-up, no email, no “come back tomorrow” screen.
- Honest data handling. The game runs mostly in your browser and collects nothing beyond basic, privacy-respecting analytics. The details are in the privacy policy.
- Built to last. WordRank is meant to stay free and simple — focused on one thing done well, rather than growing into something bloated.
